Life Update, February 2012 Edition

Since the beginning of 2012, my life has been a whole heap o’ crazy and I haven’t had much time for myself. Or for tumblr. However despite all the busy I keep suffering from, I’m finally making art again and sticking to a few solid projects. I’ll be uploading more of them here in the next few weeks, but I thought a mini-update might be nice:

  1. The Salmonberry Gun Club - My gun portraits (which are here on my website) have been submitted to an art show here in Portland, but the project is turning into something else. I’ve been concentrating a lot of the aftermath of shooting, or as I like to call it, the complete CARNAGE that happens after all the shots have been fired. I’ll be uploading a series of these soon and they’ll hopefully be paired with the portraits.
  2. Miscommunication - I’ve been spending the last three months in a battle with text message miscommunication and instead of getting flustered… well, I’m turning it into art. Recently I had a false-start relationship with a friend of mine and our downfall was how horribly we seem to communicate. With that idea in mind, I’ll be working on a photography/text-based/mixed media project involving our missed moments and textual misfires.
  3. Public and private education in Oregon - Recently I took photos at a private preschool here in Oregon and was surprised at the behind-the-scenes look I got into the organization. In the past three weeks I’ve been scrambling to finish a grant proposal that will allow me access to public and private schools in Oregon to document the way our school system works. If you’ve every written a grant proposal, you understand - this shit isn’t easy. However, with the help of a friend, I’m hoping to have it done within the next month so I can start prepping to shoot at the end of this school year.

SO. I AM REALLY FUCKING BUSY. And this doesn’t include my new responsibilities at work, the new house I live in with 3 roommates, my new 5 days-a-week workout schedule and all my friend and family obligations. Whew.

Unfortunately, when I get this bogged down, I’m prone to crazed freak outs. Yesterday, instead of losing my mind and forcing myself to work on a Sunday, I drove out to the Oregon coast for a pretty epic sunset and a long, long walk at dusk.

2012, I know we’ve had our differences so far (and I’m sorry about the shake-my-fist-at-the-sky moment last night), but I’m taking the bull by the horns and trudging onward. Bitch, you can’t keep me down!
